Social Media Updates and Trends for 2017
January 26 2017
With 2017 well underway, it's time to observe and identify what's trending and useful on the current social media scene. Here are three updates and trends you'll want to take advantage of in the months to come.
1. Twitter Loosens Its Character Limit
Twitter's 140-character limit will no longer include @names in replies or the URLs generated by media attachments. And you're now able to retweet and quote tweet yourself if you want to bring more attention to the original. Finally, if you're tweeting at someone and you want it to be seen by your followers, you no longer have to include a period before the username. What does all of this mean for you? You can say more, show more and communicate more effectively.
2. Content Remains Essential and Continues Providing Value
Content, which includes blog posts, social media posts, email newsletters, virtual tours, photos, white papers, infographics and more, shouldn't be created just for the sake of it, nor should it be sales-focused. Put your audience first and think about what they would want to see.
For example, you can provide valuable insight into the local community. You're familiar with the area and know about available properties, convenient shopping, local entertainment, school districts and crime rates. You're a walking encyclopedia of neighborhood knowledge. Use that to build your content marketing strategy.
3. Live Video Is Hot Right Now
If you really want to be on the cusp of what's trending in social media today, live video is where it's at. Options include Facebook Live, Snapchat and Periscope, among others. You can host a virtual open house, tour neighborhood hot spots, broadcast live from a local charity or sporting event, or record anything your prospects would find interesting.
